Leong is currently a tenured Associate Professor of Art and the Art Department Chair at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He has also influenced thousands of students through more than 100 lectures across the United States, China and Taiwan at institutions such as the University of California at Berkeley, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Stanford University, the University of Minnesota at Twin Cities, Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, San Antonio College in Texas, Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in China, National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, and Tainan National University of the Arts in Taiwan. Leong has served as juror for many art competitions, including public art projects for San Francisco Art Commission, Visual Arts Panel for Missouri Arts Council, Missouri State Fair Art Exhibition, Art Saint Louis juried exhibition, Figuratively Speaking juried exhibition, and the Best of America national juried exhibition.

In his latest series, Contemplation · Forces, Lampo Leong has created a new visual language that incorporates the rhythm of cursive Chinese calligraphy with an approach to color reminiscent of the symphonic effects achieved by Abstract Expressionism. Departing from its literal meaning, and set against meditative hues or fiery colors, calligraphy is shattered and layered to generate depth and dynamic tension. Energies shift and explode to create serenity in an electric manner. Light emanates from darkness, symbolizing spiritual rebirth. Leong's works celebrate the dynamic energies that give birth to new life, new planets, and new stars.

Professor Leong's work has been featured in more than 55 solo and 250 group exhibitions in museums and galleries worldwide in national and international juried/curated exhibitions. He has also collaborated with dancers, musicians and composers such as Lily Cai, Chanticleer, Gang Situ, Yi Chen and Thomas McKenney for multimedia performances and digital film premiered in San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the St. Louis International Film Festival. His painting and calligraphy are widely collected by museums and corporations internationally, including The Cantor Center for the Visual Art at Stanford University, Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Saint Louis University Museum of Art, Macao Museum of Art in Macao, and Guangdong Museum of Art in China; as well as Disney World in Florida, The Westin Surabaya in Indonesia and The Tokyo Westin in Japan.

Commissioned by the San Francisco Arts Commission, Leong's 26-foot-diameter granite inset calligraphic medallion is permanently installed in a city park. His artistic contributions have earned him more than 35 awards and much recognition internationally, such as Gold Medal at the XV Exposicao Coltctiva dos Artistas de Macau, Best of Show at the 42nd Sumi-e Society of America Anniversary Juried Exhibition, Third Place Award, Girardot National Juried Exhibition, Bronze Medal, 20th Century Asian Pacific Art Competition, and most recently, Faculty Award from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is included in over 74 biographical references, for example, Who's Who in American, Who's Who in American Art, Marquis’ Who's Who in the World, International Directory of Distinguished Leadership, UK’s One Thousand Great Intellectuals, The International Who's Who, India’s Asian/American Who's Who, Malaysia’s Asia – Men & Women of Achievement, China’s Lexicon of Notable Chinese and The World Famous Chinese Artists Almanac. His art and teaching achievements have been featured in more than 800 reviews and publications in newspapers, magazines, books, websites, and on television internationally, including a PBS documentary. He has been recognized in the US Congressional Record, and in 1999, the Mayor of San Francisco, Willie Brown, proclaimed November 19th to be Lampo Leong Day.
